Industry behind the meter

One battery to balance four power sources

The Problem

Energy-intensive plants are building their own supply: solar on the roof and the ground, wheeled wind, the grid as one input among several, and a process load that never stops. Something has to absorb the midday surplus, fill the evening gap, catch the wind ramps and capture both tariff peaks, every day. In South Africa the off-peak to peak differential now exceeds R2 per kWh with peak windows morning and evening (SAPVIA, January 2026). Write down what that duty requires and most batteries fall away: more than two full cycles a day, over 700 a year, which walks through a typical cycle warranty in a few years; interior summers near 50°C, where heat quietly eats calendar life; and a host plant engineered for forty years whose owners have no appetite for a mid-life battery replacement programme, or for a thermal-runaway chemistry next to process units.

What We Do

The Aqueous Metal Cell is designed for 30,000 cycles, 30 years and 3 cycles a day, with no scheduled augmentation. Two-plus daily cycles is inside the design envelope, not an abuse case. The chemistry carries zero risk of fire from thermal runaway, from a non-flammable aqueous electrolyte, which changes the siting conversation beside a chemical process in the same way it changes it beside a hospital. On heat we are precise: the cabinet products work from -10°C to +45°C with peaks to 60°C and the containerised system from -20°C to +60°C, so a site with 50°C peaks is an enclosure design conversation, and the cooling load is a line item we show. The Energy Rack (150 kWh) is the building block for commercial and industrial work.

What Changes for the Operator

Both tariff peaks captured daily, wind ramps absorbed, the process held through grid disturbances, and one battery procurement in forty years instead of three or four.
